Shut out of
your own front door?

It happens to careful people, usually at the worst possible hour. Ring us, hear the whole price before anyone leaves, and have the door open in about half an hour.

What people actually ring us about

Six situations cover almost every call. None of them are planned, and none of them improve by waiting until morning.

Shut out of the house

The door swung closed and the keys are on the bench inside. We open it without wrecking the lock, which is the part most people worry about.

Half of it in your hand, half of it in the door. The remainder comes out without dismantling the lock where the break is clean.

The door closes but won't lock

A latch that no longer catches or a handle that turns without throwing anything. Your house is standing open until it is dealt with.

Late nights and weekends

Two in the morning on a public holiday is normal for us. Same team, same process, and the surcharge is stated on the call.

New locks after a forced door

Once a door has been kicked or a set of keys has gone missing, the old lock is no longer doing anything. Replaced while we are there.

How it works

From the phone call to the door swinging open

Step 1The call

Tell us what happened

Where you are, what kind of lock it is, and whether anyone is shut in. Nothing else is needed to price it.

Step 2The price

Heard once, in full

Call-out, labour and GST in a single figure, plus the night rate if it applies. Nobody sets off until you accept it.

Step 3The arrival

Roughly thirty minutes

Whoever is closest, named on the phone beforehand. They will ask for proof the address is yours before starting.

Step 4The invoice

Sent after you are inside

We take payment once the door is open, never before, and the tax invoice reaches your inbox the same evening.

Before you book anyone

How to avoid being stung while you're stranded.

Standing outside at midnight is the worst possible position to negotiate from, and some operators build their pricing around exactly that. Four questions that protect you.

  • Make them say one numberNot a call-out fee with the work priced later. One total, covering everything, agreed before anyone is dispatched.
  • Write down who you spoke toA business name and a licence number on the phone, then check the person at your door is the same one. Reluctance here tells you plenty.
  • Find out if drilling is the planA drilled lock has to be replaced, which changes the bill considerably. You should be choosing that, not hearing about it afterwards.
  • Keep your card in your pocketThere is no reason to pay anything before the door opens, and no reason to accept a job with no invoice at the end of it.

Questions we get on the phone

Straight answers

Are you going to wreck my lock getting in?

Rarely. Most residential locks open without damage and keep working normally afterwards. If yours is high-security or already broken, drilling might be the only route, and we will tell you what that adds before starting.

How do you know the house is mine?

We ask, every time. Licence with the address on it, a lease, a rates notice, or post with your name. Anyone willing to skip that step will do it for the next person too.

Will someone actually answer at 2am?

Someone is rostered on all night, every night. It is a normal shift for us rather than a phone ringing beside a bed, which is why the arrival time holds overnight.

There's a baby inside and I'm outside.

Tell us immediately and the call goes straight to the front. Then ring 000 as well if there is any chance of real risk — they are closer than we are and they will not wait.

Does it cost more in the middle of the night?

It does, and the higher figure is the one you are quoted. If the door can wait until morning we will say so, and you will pay less for the same job.

Can you put a new lock on while you're here?

Yes. After a break-in or a lost set of keys most people want it changed straight away, and we carry replacements so it does not need a second appointment.

Nobody plans to be locked out.

One phone call, the whole price up front, and about half an hour of waiting.
